The point is more than just trying to keep your kitchen tidy. Most importantly, you want to avoid exposing yourself, loved ones, and guests to allergens and bacteria that can cause food-borne illnesses. Bacteria can linger on utensils, cutting boards, sponges, kitchen sinks, and appliances. (Salmonella, which can be found on raw poultry, can linger for up to 32 hours in your kitchen.)1 First, clean surfaces with a paper towel or another kitchen towel that you wash frequently. Remember that cleaning with warm, soapy water does not kill bacteria.
